Ecological Technician (Position Code: IL/EcoTech)

Waterborne Environmental, Inc. has an opening for a part-time, as needed Ecological Technician in our Champaign, IL office, to start as soon as possible, continuing through summer 2012. The position will be approximately 10-20 hr/week until summer, increasing to 20-30 hr/week during the summer period. The Technician will share responsibilities for lab/field, analysis, and administrative tasks related to our ecological field studies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist with data collection, reduction/handling, and advanced analysis techniques in the area of ecosystem ecology, contribute to researching and writing peer review articles and project reports, and provide administrative support including preparation for data collection, trips and activities, composing memos, transcribing notes, researching material, and creating presentations.

The successful candidate will be able to establish the following:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in a biological science or biological engineering curriculum (preferred), or be a junior or senior in an undergraduate biological science or engineering program with research experience in an ecology/biomonitoring laboratory
  • Familiarity with numerical ecology, including diversity metrics, ordination analysis and community similarity methods
  • Knowledge of/specialization in algal ecology and/or biomonitoring is desired
  • Competence in basic statistical methodology
  • Advanced computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, preferably experience with writing computer code in R or other programming languages and with databases
  • General understanding of the environmental industry
  • Self-motivated, organized, and resourceful with ability to meet client and project deadlines
  • Exceptional communication, writing, presentation, and negotiation skills with the ability to demonstrate these skills in both face-to-face and electronic formats

Technician (Position Code: IL/Tech)

Waterborne Environmental, Inc. has several openings for part-time, as needed, Technicians in our Champaign, Illinois; Fayette, Missouri; and Leesburg, Virginia offices. These positions will be seasonal, approximately April through August. The Technician will share responsibilities for field/travel, project, and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist with data collection and analysis; conducting validation studies and writing related project components; contributing to research; and providing administrative support including preparation for data collection, trips, and activities; composing memos; transcribing notes; researching material; and creating presentations. Travel throughout the United States will be required.

The successful candidate will maintain the following qualifications:

  • Must attend or be currently enrolled at a University and have completed at least 45 hours towards a degree in a physical/hydrological/environmental science or engineering curriculum; students with less educational experience or non-students that demonstrate experience and competency will also be considered.
  • General understanding of the environmental industry.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and resourceful with ability to meet client and project deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication, writing, presentation, and negotiation skills with the ability to demonstrate these skills in both face-to-face and electronic formats.
  • Advanced computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must hold a valid U. S. driver’s license.
