EU Directive 91/414/EEC
The registration of plant protection products within the European Union is governed by Council Directive 91/414/EEC
and Annexes I - VI. Apart from showing that products are effective, manufacturers must show that there is no unacceptable risk to human health, to non-target organisms and to the environment from the dose rates intended for product use.
Waterborne has extensive experience with higher-tier exposure analysis and
the use of regulatory models such as FOCUS, PELMO, PEARL, and MACRO in support of registration
submissions for the Directive. Our staff have pioneered the use of GIS and remote sensing for landscape-based exposure assessment which have been successful in both Annex I and Annex III inclusions.
Waterborne has contributed to the advancement of the European risk assessment process by working with regulatory and industry groups and making presentations at European conferences and workshops. We developed the PRZM components of the FOCUS group's groundwater and surface water models. We also continue to work with individual member states in refining their national groundwater and surface-water modeling scenarios.
