Mobile GIS Solutions
The ability to bring the power of GIS and geospatial data with you into the field improves not only the custom data collection process, but increases functionality and efficiency by providing real-time decision making. Waterborne provides a variety of mobile GIS services, including field data collection, ground truthing, and application development. Our services include the use of ArcSketch® as well as ArcPad®.
In-Field Data Collection
Waterborne has maximized the efficiency of our staff when they are collecting field-level information for higher tier studies. We have integrated tablet PCs, GPS, digital imaging, and specialized software to capture detailed information without affecting schedules and timetables. Field operators know exactly where they are in relation to other geospatial data features and can add observations to the data. GPS-enabled cameras capture not only an image, but also the location and an audio caption. These data can be made available immediately, or in near real time.
Real Time Decision Making
Sometimes information is needed to make real-time decisions related to environmental health. Waterborne has combined handheld computers, GPS and customized GIS software to provide the operators of agrochemical spray equipment with the relevant information they need. For example, Waterborne has developed a system for real-time management of railroad vegetation management while on the tracks. The combined system alerts the spray operator when a restricted area is approaching or being entered. No GIS experience is needed, and updates to the data are performed by a simple memory card swap. This technology represents a flexible, affordable, and easy-to-use system for agrochemical application management and can be applied to many “restricted areas” such as stream buffers and endangered species locations, as well as to specific soil properties.
