MONITORING LOCAL WATERSHEDS, IMPROVING FEDERAL DATA
Waterborne Environmental is now a member of the Goose Creek Association; a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 1970 to protect the Goose Creek Watershed (a tributary to the Potomac River). The Goose Creek Association monitors a series of locations selected by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and each site is monitored chemically monthly and twice a year for benthic organisms. The benthic monitoring takes place every fall and spring and is conducted using the Modified VA Save our Streams sampling method. Waterborne employee, Christian Bongard, was recertified last October and will lead fellow Waterborne employees to the monitoring locations Waterborne is responsible for this Spring. The monitoring data from those site visits, and all other volunteer sites, will be collected by the Goose Greek Association and sent to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to be used in Federal and State water quality databases.
